S.D. Smith does it again!

‘The Last Archer’ books are Smith at his storytelling best – if your kids loved ‘The Green Ember’, they will love these spin off stories too. Readers of the main series will remember the likeable Jo Shanks, archer extraordinaire. In this new prequel trilogy we meet Shanks in an earlier life, conflicted and downtrodden by his inadequacies and struggling with the bullying behaviour of his army superiors. His path crosses with the Longtreaders when he is dispatched to Cloud Mountain and arrives in their wake. Believing them to be traitors, he is initially hostile, but then has an unforgettable encounter with Heather that leads him to question everything he has ever been told. Jo Shanks is intensely likeable, and it’s a classic story of the underdog coming good, with all the emphasis on honesty, courage and integrity that we’ve come to expect from S.D Smith. And they’re rollicking good reads! It’s worth noting that the books in this trilogy are about half the length of those in ‘The Green Ember’ Series, so an easier read for young newly independent readers.
