“Rich Castro has taken the friendships, fears and frustrations of teenage life and crafted a high-octane fantasy adventure that demonstrates why underestimating the talents and tenacity of young people is rarely a good idea.” - Peter Andrews, Resources Manager, Urban Saints

"An action-packed storyline with subtle Christian imagery inside. A good read for non-Christians as well! Looking forward to reading the next one. Would definitely recommend for a friend!" Samuel, age 12 (about Defiance)

Fantastic plot driven YA series

“Warriors defend the weak and the poor and the defenceless. Warriors stand firm for their country. Warriors do not give up and they do not give in… Warriors stand in the gap. They shout loud and clear, ‘If you want to take my country, my land, my people, then you need to go through me.’ And they hold fast to the end...”

⚔️About the series…
Anasius is an alternate world where technology runs in harmony with nature. Eight friends find themselves extracted from their English homes and placed into this troubled land to help fight an unwinnable war.

This sci-fi adventure tale tackles issues such as bullying, death, loss, mental health, and friendship, and is full of rich symbolism and imagery that portrays Christianity.

Themes: Moral decay, bullying, courage, war, forgiveness, friendship, belonging, team work and loss
Ages Rec: Read to me 10 years + , Read Independently 12 years +
Content warning: bullying, hand to hand combat fighting, capture, imprisonment and torture, dead body, war violence, treachery, self-sacrifice/suicide mission, mild language (idiot), death

“This other world was not some fun adventure between a few of his friends. This was real, with real enemies, real pain, real torture, real death.”

⚔️ What I liked…
This series has a dystopian feel with the unlikely heroes being the extracted child army who are trained in secret and planted undercover among the land. The significance of the Scrolls which are studied and regarded deeply by a few remnant followers of Xcion the Sovereign, feel quite symbolic of Israels remnant.

🛡️My Thoughts…
This is a fantastic plot driven YA series. There are twists and turns, lots of characters and unexpected hard things happening all at once. I recommend this one for Christian and non-Christian families alike.
