Ultimate Grace

A true story of frisbee and faith in Japan

'It was an odd feeling, lining up against Great Britain. I used to dream that I might one day play for them; I had never thought that I would end up playing against them. But I had no time to dwell on the unexpected journey that had led me here, their puller raised the disc: the next point was about to start.'

If you thought being a missionary meant wearing socks and sandals, living in the jungle without a shower, and having no phone or Internet, then think again. This short book is going to blow away all your preconceptions. Levi Booth is not a stereotypical missionary. Not long out of uni, Levi headed to Japan with all his essentials: his Bible and Frisbee. He was just a normal bloke with a passion for Ultimate Frisbee who stepped out boldly to tell people about Jesus. This is his journey to Asia: the ups, the downs, the adventures and the Japanese national Ultimate Frisbee team.

Levi’s story will challenge your idea of what a missionary is and it might just cause you to consider how God could use you and your gifts, talents and hobbies – however unusual – to serve him around the world.

Using a hobby to spread the gospel

This is an enjoyable story of how Levi Booth, a missionary in Japan, was able to use his interest in Ultimate Frisbee to meet Japanese people and share the Gospel with them. How can we use our hobbies in this way?
Stephen

Not the missionary biography you might be expecting!

Levi shares his wonderful testimony of God's grace in his life. He breaks the common misconceptions we can often have about missionary work to instead demonstrate how God can still use every day situations and our own real passions (in Levi's case, his love for Ultimate Frisbee) for the cause of sharing the gospel.

Ultimate Grace

Ultimate Grace is a short account of using the knowledge and skill we already have in spreading the gospel. Levi in joining his local Ultimate Frisbee club came to grow in faith and knowledge of the grace of God, through bible studies with a fellow Frisbee player. This experience led him to go to Japan where he joined a Frisbee club to meet fellow enthusiasts of this generally unknown sport to share the gospel with. The book really demonstrates that God uses what we consider as unimportant or irrelevant to our faith, to use it as an opportunity to share the gospel and evangelise the lost. I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in sport, for it will show that their hobby can give opportunities to share our faith with those who may not have any other opportunity to hear the Christian faith and the encouragement to do so.

Missionaries come in all shapes and sizes and all with different backgrounds and interests. I found this out early on as my parents are missionaries abroad. But one of the misconceptions about missionaries is that they must all do the same thing, act the same way and be ‘normal’. Ultimate Grace is a great little book about Levi’s story. It will challenge your view of missionary work, help you see the important of reading the Bible with people and it will make you think about how God could use your gifts and interests for Him.
