Gary Millar

Gary Millar is principal of Queensland Theological College. After studying chemistry in his home city of Belfast, Gary moved to Aberdeen in Scotland to study theology, before completing a DPhil at Oxford on Deuteronomy (published as Now Choose Life in the series New Studies in Biblical Theology). Gary worked as a pastor for the next 17 years in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and was involved in both church revitalization and church planting, before moving to Brisbane to lead the team at QTC. Gary is married to Fiona and has three daughters: Lucy, Sophie, and Rebekah.

Another great 'For You' book

I can't recommend these books highly enough. I am coming to appreciate more and more that to fully understand what the Bible is saying, we need to understand the context into which the book was written and its genre. Gary Millar is an excellent teacher who also highlights aspects of Paul's personality which gives greater insight into his writings. This is a letter written to a church who have fallen prey to "shysters" seeking to make money from the gospel. Paul is seeking to show the Corinthians that real gospel-centered lives are shaped by remembering that God is in control and He is our provider. He provides not just our material needs but comforts us in the sufferings of life and, when we know the comfort of Christ, we can be a comfort to others in their pain and sorrow. And we can live in the light of that day when God will wipe away every tear and there will be no more death or weeping or sorrow or pain!
