“Let all men know that Emmanuel, the son of El Shaddai the great king, has undertaken, in covenant with his Father, to recover Mansoul...”

This dramatic story by John Bunyan, the author of Pilgrim’s Progress, is the account of the long and bitter battle for the city of Mansoul. The city is attacked by Diabolus using every means possible and the weakness and failings of the inhabitants of the city threaten disaster until Prince Emmanuel intervenes and secures victory.

This modernised version of Bunyan’s original retains the beauty of his style, while making the story accessible to young and old.

“It is my pleasure to encourage this noble effort and my privilege to pray that God will bless it.”

From the foreword by Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones

John Bunyan

John Bunyan (born November 1628, Elstow, Bedfordshire, England—died August 31, 1688, London) was a celebrated English minister and preacher, author of The Pilgrim’s Progress (1678), the book that was the most characteristic expression of the Puritan religious outlook. His other works include doctrinal and controversial writings; a spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding (1666); and the allegory The Holy War (1682).

A very worthwhile read!

Most of you have heard of the classic book “Pilgrim’s Progress” which was written by John Bunyan, who was an English writer and Puritan preacher. “The Holy War” is another title written by him that may be less common but a very worthwhile read!

The original allegory was published in the year of 1682. This book here is a modernized version, aiming to make it more accessible to young and old while retaining the original beauty.

The story is about the town Mansoul which is besieged by Diabolus (the devil) and then later rescued and relieved by the army of Emmanuel.

The book features a detailed account of Scriptural references. I also love the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter! The story is for adults, yet you may be able to read it with your more mature teenagers.
