Ed Welch

Ed Welch is a counselor and faculty member at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF). He earned a PhD in counseling (neuropsychology) from the University of Utah and a master of divinity from Biblical Theological Seminary. Ed has been counseling for more than 30 years and has written extensively on the topics of depression, fear, and addictions.

If you worry what other people think of you, then this book will be very helpful. Welch shows that fear of other people is actually driven by loving ourselves more than God. In fact we want to make ourselves God. Welch then takes that to show us that we all need a Saviour. Knowing God through Jesus Christ means that we are less dependant on other's opinions and we are freed to love them. The book is aimed at teenagers and young adults, but it's message is very relevant for older people as well.

In this book, Ed Welch reminds us in a profound - yet incredibly readable - way of the core truths of the gospel, and our identity in Christ. We're reminded of the wrong ways we view ourselves, God, and those around us, leading to a need to compare, to match up, to fit in, and to stand out. Then we're shown who we really are, who God really is, and how we can enjoy relating to and loving those around us. I love the conversational style of the book, with copious opportunities for personal reflection, and space to take notes throughout. This book is a great read whether you're satisfied with life or feeling discontent. It's aimed at a younger audience, and I'd heartily recommend it to anybody aged (roughly) 16-35.
