A refreshing Easter devotional

The book of Lamentations is not a well-trodden part of the Bible. Yet dwelling in its bleak shadows, we find surprising treasure. For broken people in a broken world, Lamentations’ aching sorrow is strangely refreshing.

The Way of Sorrow contains a daily reflection and response, taking us on a journey from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. This Lent, come and walk through ruins of unflinching grief and there re-discover the unfailing grace of God in Jesus Christ.

Finding Mercy on the Way of Sorrow

I confess to a love/hate relationship with Lamentations as it seems miserable but the author aims to bring treasure from this Bible book for broken people, which seems appropriate for the situation in our world at the moment.

I loved the layout of the book, short chapters, text separated into bite-size chunks with the careful placement of headings and a textbox of short application with a suggestion of a song to listen to. I appreciated the fact that not all the application was individualistic and some was corporate. This makes the book a useful resource for small groups. I am not going to wait for Easter to start going through it slowly!
