The Mind Muddler

It’s important to help children understand sin and this book makes a good start at explaining. It would be helpful to have the recommended age in the description. I would suggest primary school age.

The Mind Muddler

I think this may be my favourite children’s book published by 10ofThose so far. Let me tell you why.. Firstly, the content is fantastic. Jo has taken the opening chapter of Romans, and used it to show how sin has ‘muddled up our thinking’. When we teach sin to children, we usually do not talk about the way it affects our understanding. In a world that prizes good thought and reason, this short book helps children to understand that even that has been affected. Secondly, the rhyming actually works! That may sound odd, but my daughter has a number of ‘rhyming’ books that simply do not rhyme. This makes the book read really well and holds your attention. Finally, the artwork by Rebecca Watts matches the style fantastically. Full–page illustrations that carry the theme of what is being said are present on each page. If you were to work slowly through the book, you could ask your child what is going on in each picture.

The Mind Muddler

This book is a fun and interesting read, and sparked some thoughts about concepts I want to teach my kids. It is tackling the subject of sin and how to explain that to children through rhyme and fun graphics. I still think its a bit confusing for children, as sometimes the concept is lost through wanting the words to rhyme, but overall it is a helpful book to add to your collection. It talks well about how our thinking gets skewed and tangled and we don't see things clearly without God. There are also lots of resources at the back of the book to help parents and downloadable resources online to go along with it.
