Sometimes moving, passionate, beautiful, or heartbreaking, the book of Psalms is one of the most treasured books of the Bible. Many of us have a favourite psalm that we turn to encourage us when we’re struggling or to spur us on in love for the Lord. Even though they were written many hundreds of years ago, their poetry resonates with us as we relate to the truths they speak about the world, God, and ourselves.

In this, the second of three undated devotions on the psalms, Graham Hooper walks us through Psalms 51–100. He explains the context of each psalm and explores what they teach us about God’s character. You’ll see how God still speaks to us today through this ancient book.

Psalms: Songs from the heart (Volume 2)

The delight of Graham Hooper’s book is that it is a reflection of the Psalter itself. For in the Psalms we have the full expression of life, and it’s priorities, challenges and emotions. Not only that but in reading the Psalms, we are exposed to enriching theology. Graham Hooper effectively gives us short reflections to “chew on” as we read through the Psalms. We are all aware that finding time to read the bible can be difficult with this first volume paired with a Psalm a day you will not only be getting thought–provoking theology, but we will be getting that in expresso form. For those of us who time is at a premium. I would recommend this as a companion piece as you read the Psalms. Perfect for a bus journey to work.

Psalms: Songs from the heart (Volume 2)

The Psalms have been loved, read and sung by millions of people throughout history. People get drawn in by the beautiful poetry, the honesty of the struggles and pain of life and the beauty of our Great God. Graham Hooper does a tremendous job of explaining the context of each Psalm (from 51–100) and unpacking exactly what the Psalms teach us about God, His character and His Ways.
