Don't Wait

Please don't feel you need to wait until you are a certain age to read this book. It is packed with helpful reminders of how to live for Jesus every day however old you are.

A GOOD OLD AGE

I received this as a gift. I have given away many copies after that because it is so good for seniors. I hope to give about 40 copies to my Sr. class in Spring.

A Good Old Age

I read this book last year and I LOVED it. As a thirty–something I was initially reading it to see how I might better understand those older Christians around me, but there is wisdom for Christians of any age. It’s suggested that you read one chapter a day, rather than reading it all in one go, and it would make a great devotional doing that. I’m impatient and read it in big chunks, and that was fine too. I think the title should be change d though, as it probably puts off younger Christians from reading it, but it’s an A–Z of loving and following the Lord Jesus. Full Stop! There are some very practical suggestions by the wonderful Derek Prime which do specifically speak to the older generation, but they were eye opening to me, as we all tend to focus on our own stage of life. I wholeheartedly recommend this to everyone.

I hadn’t noticed this unusual book until very recently, but I’m glad I finally came across it. You are probably at least somewhat familiar with Derek Prime’s various writings on various biblical studies, and here he takes a distinctly pastoral tone to counsel those of us who are approaching our “senior” years. Very simply, this book is just superb, rich with insightful application of biblical instruction to older Christians. Best read one (brief) chapter per day for reflection. Designed for personal reading but a wonderful book for adult Bible study groups or Sunday School classes also. It’s aimed at the older generation, but in truth – as Alistair Begg mentions in his enthusiastic Foreword – it should be read while you’re still young: the counsel here is not for a new way of life now that you are old, but for a Christian way of thinking and living that by our senior years should be well–established. An excellent, remarkably profitable, and very needed book eminently suited to you and everyone you know. Definitely five stars – very highly recommended! This a great read - even though I am 49, I can see many of the things addressed in this book already creeping up on me. The introduction does suggest you read a chapter a day - not in three days flat. But the type font is pleasantly large, and the chapters do not waffle on!! Very practical, I would highly recommend this to - couples as part of your daily devotions, you can then reflect and discuss the subject for the rest of the day - for those on their own - lots of practical advice for those experiencing isolation, boredom etc. - for a Fellowship meeting - why not read a chapter each time you meet a discuss the issues it raises. Now can I convince my church to buy 50+ copies to pass on to people! I hope so!!

Practical, Challenging and Relevant for everyone 50+

I bought copies of this book for some of my older friends. However, upon reading through some of the short chapters I became immediately enthralled by the simple wisdom embedded within each context. So many of the life-skills considered are equally important for Christians of any age and not just the 'old'. Alternatively, it could be considered as a wise preparation for old age. A lovely book which can be enjoyed over and over again.
