Man’s Best Friend

Exploring the theme of "Man's best friend", Roger Carswell gets alongside his reader by writing about familiar joys of dog ownership. He also provides interesting facts regarding particularly remarkable dogs from history, e.g. "Barry" the St Bernard, as well as finding ways to 'name-drop' various breeds and the characteristics they are known for. It is not hard to imagine a smile forming on his reader's face at the mention of the breed of their beloved pet. The gospel is introduced following the story of a dog being loyal to its owner, even to death. Carswell contrasts this with Christ's giving his life for us, but not in vain. His argument is that Jesus is the Friend of sinners, "who knows us even better than we know ourselves, who is aware of all our failings, yet still loves us", concluding that "It's great to love God's creatures; it is greater still to know and love the Creator". A heart-warming, respectful and friendly tract. Well-presented with a good selection of pictures. Take one with you when walking the dog?
