When life is tough and we seem to have reached a dead end, it’s easy to feel as if God has given up on us.

We’re not alone in feeling like this. Catherine Campbell vividly retells the stories of real people from the Bible with difficult and sometimes painful lives, who struggled to see God’s path for them.

Abigail was trapped in marriage to a fool.
John Mark ran away from his friends.
The Samaritan woman faced shame in the society of her day.
Judah sinned against Tamar and Joseph.
Simeon and Anna had the challenges of old age.

But God hadn’t finished with any of them.

With Life Lessons reflections to encourage us to respond biblically to our own life circumstances, and questions for personal reflection or group discussion, Catherine Campbell helps us see what the Bible tells us – God isn’t finished with you yet!

Catherine Campbell

Catherine Campbell has spoken at numerous women’s events, including day conferences, breakfasts and weekends, as well as individual fellowship meetings for women in various churches. Having cared for two profoundly disabled daughters for a period of almost twenty years, Catherine is often asked to speak on the subject of suffering – through testimony, bible ministry and seminars. But she also delights in opportunities to share what the Bible has to say on a myriad of other subjects too! She is married to Philip. They have three children; two daughters, Cheryl and Joy, now in heaven, and a wonderful son, Paul who is married to Susie, both exceptional musicians.

Narrative and teaching in perfect balance.

I'll be honest, I bought this book without having even read the blurb as I've found Catherine's books such a blessing in the past. So when I came to read it I was pleasantly surprised that the book takes 5 Bible stories/characters and Catherine has very carefully retold them in more depth. If you've read Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers you'll know the kind of retelling. The featured people are Abigail, John Mark, the woman of Samaria, Judah, Simeon and Anna. The really helpful part is that Catherine doesn't just retell their stories, but goes on to bring some application and teaching from each story, and even some personal study. I found the balance of narrative and explanation/application to be perfect and really hope that Catherine does more in this style!
