With the subtitle "Practical ideas for thriving in the early years of motherhood", it’s obvious who this book is for, but you need to know what it is like.

What others are saying about Survival Tips for Mums:

"I wish someone had given me this book when I was just embarking on the adventure of motherhood. It manages to be positive without being dewy-eyed. It is funny, warm, honest and Christ-centred and in addition is superbly practical about everything from the indignities of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding to the annoyances of nits and everlasting laundry. And yet it is neither prescriptive nor preachy, just very readable and helpful."
Ann Benton, author of The Fruitful Home and Parenting Against the Tide

"Reading Survival Tips for Mums is like having a friend who’s parenting alongside you, who can encourage you when you need a nudge in the right direction, help you through the challenges and remind you of the positives, particularly of the many blessings there are—even if sometimes they feel buried under the responsibilities of parenthood, nappies, the ironing pile … Learn from an ordinary mum who’s been there and learnt many helpful lessons along the way. Learn how to do family life well, by doing it as simply as possible. You will see that motherhood is a high calling—even if it’s often lacking in glamour—or a wage. It’s about learning to be a mum by grace, rather than by ‘mumsnet’. These ‘tips’ are soaked in wisdom from God’s word, and show that even for busy mums, it’s not just possible, but vital to keep in touch with God, and to live with His perspective—the wisest tip of all."
— Julia Jones, Director of Women's Courses at London Seminary

"How does a mum of five children, pregnant with her sixth, find time to write a book? The answer is because she has lived what she writes and shares her fresh experience. Reading the book is like listening to Elizabeth chat about her reflections on being a busy mum over a cup of coffee. You will nod your head in agreement, smile as you picture her interacting with the children and grab a pencil to note down her wise advice ... She writes with realism, honesty and frankness. You won’t feel judged but rather inspired to persevere when you feel discouraged ... This book will give you fresh perspective and you will not only survive but thrive in the privileged role God has given you of being a Mum. I can already think of many mothers to whom I would like to give this book."
— Elinor Magowan, Pastor's wife, Women's Ministry Coordinator for FIEC, formerly UFM Women's Pastoral Worker

"This book takes us beyond surviving to thriving: physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. It doesn’t send us on a parenting guilt trip but helps us in the wonderful privilege of introducing our little ones to the God who forgives, cleanses and restores us into a loving relationship with him. ‘He remembers that we are dust’, but sometimes we forget it, and comparing our perfect ideas of what we expected ‘mummyhood’ to be like, with the daily reality of what we are experiencing, destroys our confidence and our joy. This lovely book helps us to avoid that temptation and keep our sanity and enjoyment in raising the children God has blessed us with."
— Colette Harding, Pastor's wife, mother and grandmother

"Like the title suggests it is very practical, full of helpful tips and advice—from keeping spiritually healthy to what high chair is best to buy! ... I found it very reassuring and honest! I wish it had existed when I first started parenting but I have three small boys at home and am thankful for the advice I can use now and some of the tips for situations I haven’t experienced yet. I can imagine pulling this book back out when I face those challenges, like the children getting chicken pox! With so much choice and so many voices in the world telling Christian mums what is best, it is helpful to have an experienced and godly mum share what she has found work and encourage mums to keep on keeping on in Jesus."
— Sibyl Brady, Pastor's wife and mother of three small boys

Survival Tips for Mums

This is a great little book for anyone about to become a mum or in the first few years of motherhood. It’s honest about the challenges, but full of gentle, practical advice in the face of them. The first half of the book shows how mothers need to look after themselves in order to be fully equipped to look after their families. It looks first at mental health, with some helpful ideas for when the list of demands on you seems neverending. The second chapter, on physical health, explains honestly what to expect during pregnancy, childbirth, and the early days of life with a new–born. The author then issues a challenge on spiritual health, including how to cultivate and deepen your relationship with God on days when you are exhausted and a ‘quiet’ time might be anything but that! Finally there is a chapter on social health, including social media, marriage, and hospitality. The second half of the book is an A–Z of looking after your children and home, covering topics like clutter, money, potty training, ideas for dreary days, and lots more. It’s short, very readable, and full of warm, practical advice. I loved how down to earth she was! This book is not a handbook that covers every scenario, but rather one mum’s experience of having and bringing up six little children. It will encourage all mums of young children by reminding them of their high calling from God, and it gives much helpful advice to undertake this responsibility well. I wish it had been available when I started my parenting journey!

Survival Tips for Mums

This title caught my eye a while back and when it arrived it went on my to–read pile, sadly getting neglected for a month or so as I focused on weaning my son and staying sane through motherhood! But when I started this book I was smiling right from the start. Just what I needed! Elizabeth writes with humour, humility and with such kind character, that it feels like having your big sister pass down advice to you. The tips are so helpful, I am already using so much of what she suggests, including joining mums groups I never even knew existed! With practical elements on budgeting, money–saving, learning to finish multiple jobs in one trip and many other brilliant gems of advice, this book will make the perfect gift for a new mum – or even a tired and busy older mum, who just needs a pick me up! Elizabeth honours the role of family in this ever–changing modern world through the reminder that being a mum is a blessing and a role God created, and exploring how that can work today in a culture where full time mum isn’t seen as a real job. As a new mum myself, I was encouraged, uplifted and given many more ideas which was exactly what I’d hoped for. This book blessed me so much and I will definitely be giving copies to new mum friends in the future!

Survival Tips for Mums

As a first time Mum who was expecting when I started reading the book, it was exactly what I needed at the time to help me through the barrage of other ‘how to parent’ books. Instead of making me feel stressed at all that I needed to do and thinking, ‘how will I do this?’ Elizabeth’s book encouraged me to look to the Lord, and also gives really practical, non–judgemental tips that helped me, rather than stressing me out further! It’s also great to dip into, as there’s an A–Z of practical tips, it’s perfect if you’re a busy Mum. If you feel discouraged, stressed out with Mum–life this is a really good book to read, and the perfect size/format for a busy Mother.

Survival Tips for Mums

On page 84 of the book Elizabeth expresses doubts as to any man reading that far. I am man but I’ve read the whole thing. I can’t remember reading a book in one sitting before. Yes, it’s not for blokes (it gets into areas I hardly want to think about really) but it is an impressive work and one of the most enjoyable reads I have known in a long while. It is brilliantly written. Any writer needs to find a voice and Elizabeth’s is superb – serious yet humorous, realistic, practical, frank, oozing with well thought through biblicality. Such a funny book, such a practical book, such an encouraging book, such a frank book; a very modern book too, written for today not last century. It is honest, realistic, solid, judicious, balanced, sensible. What a joy to know such books are being produced. But one for every young mum you know.
