This book’s purpose is to lead people to Jesus and to give them equipment for living by making the teaching of Ecclesiastes plain and understandable. For His glory, Jesus uses Ecclesiastes to recover our humanity, resist our naivete and equip us for life and ministry. To recover our humanity, Ecclesiastes gives personal voice to human experience. Our questions, our longings, our misguided pursuits are candidly exposed. God recovers His rightful place and reorients us toward our true purpose as well as what it is that makes a life good, meaningful, and joyful. To resist our naiveté, God uses knowledgeable and even shocking speech regarding what actually confronts us in the fallen world. He gives us language for use, and teaches us how to name and to navigate the ugly wreckage of what once was Eden. Consequently, Ecclesiastes serves as wisdom guide in Jesus for ordinary men and women regarding how to do life humanly with a God–saturated vision.
