Easy to Read, but Not My Preferred Translation

I’ve spent time reading the NIV and can appreciate why it’s so popular. It’s very clear, easy to follow, and accessible, especially for newer readers or for more casual reading. However, I’ve found that it doesn’t quite “click” for me in the same way as other translations. I tend to prefer the NKJV most, followed by the ESV, and I think part of the reason is that the NIV feels a bit too conversational at times. The wording is smoother and easier to read, but for me, it sometimes loses a sense of precision and weight that I value when studying Scripture. That said, the NIV truly shines as an audio Bible. Its conversational phrasing makes listening to passages effortless and engaging, whereas the NKJV and ESV can feel a bit formal or stiff when read aloud. Overall, the NIV is still a very good and reliable translation. It’s especially helpful for readability and for listening, but it’s not the one I naturally gravitate towards for deeper study.
