Christians serving the Lord can fall into two traps: depending too heavily on their own power or underestimating their God-given purpose. In this collection of classic sermons, renowned theologian and philosopher Francis A. Schaeffer teaches believers how to rely on the Holy Spirit—not personal effort or status—in matters of service and leadership.

This short eBook includes an excerpt from Schaeffer's sermon, "The Lord's Work in the Lord's Way," plus 2 sermons from the book No Little People. Covering topics including humility and servanthood, Christian office, spiritual battles, and trusting God's methods, Schaeffer encourages pastors, students, and church members to live as consecrated people, working humbly for God's approval instead of human praise.

A Profound Reflection on True Christian Living and Leadership

In True Christian Living, Francis A. Schaeffer offers a deep reflection on what authentic Christian faith and ministry look like. Schaeffer argues that real Christianity goes beyond doctrinal correctness and moral uprightness—it is about a genuine, humble relationship with Christ. True Christian living, he asserts, is rooted in recognizing our dependence on Jesus as the source of vitality and purpose. One of Schaeffer’s central ideas is the model of the Three Concentric Circles of Christian Life: Outer Circle: Correct theological beliefs and biblical orthodoxy. Middle Circle: Intellectual understanding and engagement with contemporary issues. Inner Circle: A humble heart, love for God, and holy living. While all three circles are crucial, Schaeffer emphasizes that the inner circle—our relationship with God—must guide and inform the other two. Schaeffer also speaks to the essence of Christian leadership, which he defines as servanthood rather than authority. True leaders, he argues, serve humbly, following Christ’s example of washing His disciples' feet. Leadership should never be about power or ego but about selfless service. This small yet impactful book has left me with many profound insights. One of my favourite passages states: “But if a Christian is consecrated, does this mean he will be in a big place instead of a little place? The answer, the next step, is very important: as there are no little people in God’s sight, so there are no little places. To be wholly committed to God in the place where God wants him—this is the creature glorified.”
