No matter what the circumstances, death shakes us to the core. It seems so wrong, and it is! We long for comfort, but we don’t know where to look. Can God really help when we are overwhelmed with grief?

With compassion and biblical wisdom, Paul David Tripp shows us how to think and what to do when death enters our door. He reminds us that we have a Savior who knows our sorrows, hears our cries, and promises to one day wipe away all tears. Hope and healing come from our relationship with Jesus, the One who promises to walk all the way through the valley of the shadow of death with us.

Helpful at Points, But Limited in Scope

Grief: Finding Hope Again by Paul David Tripp is a short and readable reflection on grief, particularly focused on the death of believers. I picked it up hoping it would help me process some personal loss, and while parts of it were thoughtful, I found the book somewhat limited in both scope and sensitivity. I appreciated the author’s honest discussion of the temptations that can accompany grief—doubt, anger, envy, and self-pity—as those sections felt grounded and relatable. However, some statements felt difficult to read in the middle of real grief and may come across too strong without much gentleness. I also felt the book offered little comfort for those grieving someone who was not a believer. Overall, there are encouraging moments, but it wasn’t as helpful or comforting as I had hoped.
