Instruments In The Redeemer's Hands

People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change

Paul David Tripp

Quantity

Comprehensive treatment of how God uses people as tools of change in the lives of others, people who themselves are in need of change.

In many ways, the church today has more consumers than committed participants. We see church merely as an event we attend or an organization we belong to, rather than as a calling that shapes our entire life.

Tripp explains how his work follows an “all of my people, all of the time” model. If you followed the Lord for a thousand years, you would still need the ministry of the body of Christ as much as you did the day you first believed. This need will remain until our sanctification is complete in Glory.

Instruments In The Redeemer’s Hands

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I picked up this book because I grew up being the “advice friend” at school and I thought it would be good to be better equipped to give advice. However, this book is about so much more than just how to hold someone’s hand when they’re struggling (which is sometimes the most valuable thing we can do). Tripp biblically and masterfully explains our heart tendencies and exposes our individual need for grace. Through reading this book I was convicted of my sinful attitudes towards sanctification and how unhelpful my advice had been over the years; the only hope we can offer to anyone around us is the hope of the gospel and any counsel that is not gospel–centred is unhelpful and only gives false hope. As you read this book, Tripp encourages you to worship the Redeemer God who works in, through and for His people. He gives practical, biblical advice and I have can genuinely say what I learnt from this book has been immensely helpful both in normal, everyday conversations and in serious discussions about the struggles of those around me. This is not a small book that offers a “quick fix” to your biblical counselling techniques, but an in–depth look at the human heart, the God who is determined to make His people like His Son, and how sinful people in need of change can help other sinful people in need of change. I cannot recommend this book enough – buy it, read it, pray through it, rejoice and see the Lord working!
