“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?” —Psalm 121:1

As moms, we spend a lot of time looking down: at our phones, at the toddler at our feet, at our mounting to-do lists. We also gaze to the side, envious of what others have. We might even look behind us, nostalgic about the past, or ahead in hope for a more manageable future. But what if God, through his Word, is gently placing his hand under our chins and lifting our eyes up toward him?

Derived from Psalm 121, these 40 devotions will help you lift your eyes from motherhood’s trials and fix them upon God’s character and strength. Alongside stunning, original watercolor illustrations, Whitney Newby provides verses, personal stories, and Scripture-based reflections that will encourage you amid motherhood’s unique challenges.

These concise devotions offer powerful reminders of God’s promises whenever and wherever you need them. When you fix your eyes on him and know him as your Helper, Comforter, Shepherd, and Sustainer, you can move forward with purpose and hope in your mothering journey.

We very much need God’s help as we help our little ones grow

In a season of struggling to find (or make) time to read my Bible, I found this book of 40 devotionals made me genuinely look forward to my quiet time each morning. It was a fantastic first dipping of the toe back into some sort of morning quiet time routine for me, and I found once I got reading each day I didn’t want each daily devotional to end.

In an often bewildering season of questioning myself and my decisions a lot more, it was so wonderful to spend time reading something written specifically for this stage of life, by someone who completely understood a lot of the challenges unique to motherhood that I was facing.

Being more tired than normal, I appreciated the book being completely digestible and quick to read, with each devotional being only a page or two long, meaning it is possible to read with a baby or toddler rolling around or playing next to you.

Despite being beautiful and relatable, the content is still thoroughly biblical as the author Whitney takes the reader through Psalm 121 (but really really slowly) line by line, ultimately showing the reader that we very much need God’s help as we help our little ones grow.
