Gregory Koukl, bestselling author and founder of Stand to Reason, explains how Christianity is a true and comprehensive account of all reality—an unfolding story of the world in all its mystery and wonder.

Many believe Christianity is just another private religious view. Some think of it merely as a vehicle for getting “saved.” Others reduce it to a source of moral teaching. But Christianity is so much more.

In The Story of Reality, Koukl shows how Christianity is actually a complete picture of reality revealing why the world is the way it is. When the pieces of the puzzle are properly assembled, we see the big picture clearly. Christianity is the true story of:

  • How the world began
  • Why the world is the way it is
  • What role humans play in the drama
  • How all the plotlines of the story are resolved in the end
  • How our deepest hunger for meaning a purpose can finally be satisfied

Using five words that form the narrative backbone of the Christian story, Koukl identifies the most important things that happen in the order they take place: God, Man, Jesus, Cross, and Resurrection.

If you’re already a Christian, this book will help you more deeply know and understand the true story of reality. For those still seeking answers to the questions of life, this is an invitation to hear an account that explains the world in a way nothing else does.

This is the story that can change your life forever.

Gregory Koukl

Gregory Koukl is the founder and president of Stand to Reason. Greg started out thinking he was too smart to become a Christian and ended up giving his life for the defence of Christianity. A central theme of Greg's speaking and writing is that the Christian view of reality can compete in the marketplace of ideas when it's properly understood and properly articulated.

Koukl's teaching has been featured on Focus on the Family radio, he's been interviewed for the BBC, and did a one-hour national television debate with Deepak Chopra on Lee Strobel's "Faith Under Fire." Greg has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and the L.A. Times.

Koukl received his Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at Talbot School of Theology, graduating with high honours, and his Masters with honours in Christian Apologetics from Simon Greenleaf University. He is an adjunct professor in the graduate program of Christian apologetics at Biola University.

A Concise and Engaging Introduction to Church History

While I already had some familiarity with church history, this book served as a helpful refresher and brought several important figures and movements back to mind—such as Geert Groote (1340–1384), whom I had not encountered before. It also rekindled my interest in the Moravian Church—a truly fascinating community—and prompted me to learn more about “the method” that gave the Methodism its name. If you have under two hours to spare—whether to read or listen—this book provides a concise and accessible introduction to the broad sweep of church history. The authors highlight key moments and influential figures from each century, offering a clear sense of continuity in how the Lord has worked through His people across the centuries. This is not a book for readers already deeply immersed in historical theology or those seeking detailed analysis. However, if you tend to find history overwhelming or difficult to approach, this compact volume may surprise you. The style is engaging and the pace is brisk. Overall, it is a concise, readable, and spiritually encouraging overview of church history—well suited for beginners or for anyone looking for a brief but meaningful refresher.
