The Night Before Christmas

A nativity spin on the classic poem

Oliver Lancaster

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the stable

every creature was stirring. This ain't a fable!

No stockings were hung, no chimney in sight,

but one thing’s for sure - The Lord came that night!

Children will love this rollicking retelling of the Christmas story, based on the classic festive poem. Join the chaos and wonder of the very first ‘night before Christmas’ when everything was far from silent and still!

Dimensions: 240mm x 290mm

Selected commendations:

“Super accessible and fun to read - with a great gospel emphasis. Bravo!”

Jonathan Thomas, author & minister of Cornerstone Church, Abergavenny

"Had the pleasure of reading The Night Before Christmas by my good northern chum Oliver Lancaster. I love Ollie’s writing - full of conversational charm, wit and wordplay. Reading this gem feels like you’re journeying the very first Christmas, while sipping mulled wine in your slippers. Wholeheartedly recommend."

Dai Woolridge, spoken word poet, storyteller and author

Engaging and truthful

This light-hearted story, based on the classic festive poem is a fantastic retelling of the Christmas story. It is humorous and engaging for children (and adults) of all ages. The story starts in a recognisable, western Christmas scene as a family waits for Christmas. It then transports us to ancient Bethlehem- and not the sanitised version we often hear of. The story strips away ideas of elves, festive food and Christmas specials on TV. Instead it charts the story, going back to King David. The book is beautifully illustrated with contemporary style with diverse skin tones represented. This story is one which will no doubt be loved, treasured and returned to each year. I could also see it being used as the basis of a nativity play at a school or church.

So beautiful - great story telling and stunning illustrations

Oooh, it's good! It arrived just as I was leaving the house to go out for a drink with a not-yet Christian friend of mine who works in a school 4 days a week. I asked if I could bring it to look at in the car and she asked me to read it while she was driving. She loved it! Looked at the illustrations when we parked and said they were beautiful. Said the whole thing made her emotional and she would be asking her school to get a copy as it's the perfect style of picture book to read for a class.
