The Nativity

We loved reading ‘The Nativity’ by Bethan Lycett. It wraps a wealth of biblical nativity truths into an enjoyable, memorable storyline. We’re accustomed to Christmas stories that are either light in content or not entirely accurate, so when we read through this book, we were delighted with the weight of material it contains and its faithfulness to the gospel narratives. We loved the inclusion of characters like Simeon and Anna, the clarification that we don’t know how many wise men there were, and – especially – the ending where the reader is discouraged from thinking that the story stops there. As long as we have young children, this book will be read often in our house, particularly around Christmas time. We’ll also be recommending to anyone looking for a good children’s nativity book.

The Nativity

Bethan Lynett has managed to create a fresh and delightful retelling of the Christmas story, charmingly illustrated. The book is particularly apt for children between two and eight years of age but it’s lively rhyming narrative will bless all of the family. The book brings afresh the joy of the Christmas message cleverly explaining scripture truths in a way younger children can understand and engage with. A huge appeal is the biblically accurate narrative that stays true to the gospel accounts enabling the whole family to learn more of the Christmas story. For example the story includes people such as Zechariah and Simeon who are often overlooked. This book is enjoyable to read individually, to a child or as a family and would be a great prompt for conversation or alongside a reading of the biblical accounts. If you are looking for inspiration it would also be a good narration for a simple nativity performance. This would be a lovely gift for children and families alike or to include as part of your own Christmas traditions, maybe reading the night you put up your Christmas tree or adding it to your Christmas Eve traditions .

The Nativity

Finding a children’s book of the Christmas story that is both close to the Biblical account and exciting for children to read is not always easy, often things are simplified too much or some details are just missed out. But The Nativity does not do that! This is a great little book that will be beneficial for every parents to read to their child during the Christmas period. This is a great book about the amazing beginning of our Great King!

The Nativity

This would make a great gift for sunday schools to give at Christmas. It is great that the story sticks very closely to the biblical account of Jesus’ birth too, rather than the simplified versions we often read. Great job
