Most experienced Christians are familiar with the Fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians. Love, peace, patience, and so on are often considered both gracious marks of true Christian character and ideals to aim for. But what do they look like when lived to the fullest?

This book answers this question by studying the fullness of the Fruit of the Spirit in the life of Christ. In a warm and engaging style, Jonathan Cruse examines these godly attributes in the Lord’s example, comparing them with our own faltering efforts at holiness, and shows how only the power of God himself can truly conform us to Christ. The work is his, not ours – and this is good news for all those who yearn for greater sanctification.

Fruit of the Spirit

This book is about the Fruits of the Spirit. But it is not a "must try harder and do better" exposition of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness , gentleness and self-control. Instead, each chapter explores how each fruit of the Spirit is displayed in the character of Christ. And when we remember that He has died the death we deserve so we can have abundant life, then we realise that we can only bear the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, etc when we are attached to the true vine - Jesus, Himself. What freedom to know our efforts are not the answer to becoming more fruitful, but it is gazing at and abiding in Jesus, knowing He has given us His Spirit, who is at work within us, changing us day by day. There are discussion questions at the end so this is ideal for personal deviotions and group Bible studies.
