God’s people have always had a reason to sing. Hymns feed and strengthen faith and a healthy diet of songs fuels our devotion and discipleship.

Our Hymn Writers and Their Hymns traces the development of the hymn from the early Christian church to the present day and helps us better understand the history and tradition of Christian singing.

‘Compellingly tells the stories behind many of the finest hymns in the English language.'

Our Hymn Writers and Their Hymns

There aren't many books I've enjoyed so much that I've read twice, but Our Hymn Writers and Their Hymns is one of them. Faith Cook does a (typically) wonderful job of telling the stories behind some of the most famous hymns, and helps us appreciate the history and tradition of Christian singing.

Our Hymn Writers And Their Hymns will encourage you with a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and enliven your experience of singing the rich inheritance they have left us in their hymns.

Our Hymn Writers and Their Hymns

If you are a musician, a church leader, or just someone who loves to belt out a good hymn, this book will help you grow in your appreciation of the rich history of British hymnody and the hymn writers God has so graciously gifted us with. Faith Cook is an excellent biographer as her work is meticulously researched showing the historic context and doctrinal debates from which many of our great hymns were forged.

One striking joy of this book is the vast number of hymn verses that Cook includes within each chapter. Read them all! Bask in the poetic genius and deep love these hymn writers had for their Lord and Saviour and sing along…
