New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers returns to her romance roots with this unexpected and redemptive love story, a probing tale that reminds us that mercy can shape even the most broken among us into an imperfect yet stunning masterpiece.

A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want--money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breath-taking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist--an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Like Roman, Grace is wrestling with ghosts and secrets of her own. After a disastrous marriage threw her life completely off course, she vowed never to let love steal her dreams again. But as she gets to know the enigmatic man behind the reputation, it's as if the jagged pieces of both of their pasts slowly begin to fit together... until something so unexpected happens that it changes the course of their relationship--and both their lives--forever.

Francine Rivers

Francine Rivers has enjoyed a successful writing career for more than twenty-five years. Early achievements in the secular market translated into award-winning and best-selling works upon her conversion to Christ in 1986. REDEEMING LOVE, her Francine effort for the Christian market, was a best-selling title that garnered several awards and was a finalist for the Romance Writers of America's Choice Award.

Francine and her husband Rick live in Northern California and enjoy the time spent with their three grown children and every opportunity to spoil their five grandchildren.  She uses her writing to draw closer to the Lord, and that through her work she might worship and praise Jesus for all He has done and is doing in her life.

A Sensual Yet Powerful Story—But Not My Favorite by Francine Rivers

The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers is a beautifully written novel that explores themes of redemption, love, and the power of God's grace. While I appreciate Rivers' storytelling and the emotional depth she brings to her characters, I found this book to be too sensual for my taste—similar to her other well-known work, Redeeming Love. While I understand that many readers find this element compelling, it wasn’t what I was hoping for in a Christian fiction novel. That said, Francine Rivers' writing is undeniably strong, and the way she delves into complex human emotions is impressive. Her ability to bring characters to life, capturing their struggles and growth, is one of the reasons I’ve continued to read her books. The Masterpiece is no exception, as it highlights the transformative power of God's love. However, if you’re like me and prefer stories with less emphasis on sensuality, I would recommend some of Rivers' other historical fiction, such as the Sons of Encouragement series and Lineage of Grace series. These books offer rich, biblically-rooted narratives that focus more on character development and faith without the sensual undertones that I find a bit too prominent in The Masterpiece and Redeeming Love. In summary, while The Masterpiece is an engaging story with powerful themes, it’s not my personal favourite by Francine Rivers due to the sensual elements. However, if that aspect doesn’t bother you, or if you enjoy her deeper character-driven plots, you may really enjoy it. For a different, more faith-centred experience, I’d highly recommend exploring her other historical fiction books.
