Discovering the Grace of Lament

Lament is how we bring our sorrow to God—but it is a neglected dimension of the Christian life for many Christians today. We need to recover the practice of honest spiritual struggle that gives us permission to vocalize our pain and wrestle with our sorrow. Lament avoids trite answers and quick solutions, progressively moving us toward deeper worship and trust.

Exploring how the Bible—through the psalms of lament and the book of Lamentations—gives voice to our pain, this book invites us to grieve, struggle, and tap into the rich reservoir of grace and mercy God offers in the darkest moments of our lives.

Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy

This is a book written for this time, a time when we need to learn to lament. The author writes: “Lament stands in the gap between pain and promise… It is the language of loss as we grieve together… It is how we experience grace no matter what we face.” He says: “My hope is for a resurgence of unique prayer times in the life of the church. The body of Christ needs to lament together. The church has been given this biblical prayer language, and we need each other to do it well. We need to weep with those who weep.” I recommend this book wholeheartedly – share it with your friends, and with your pastor; that we might indeed learn to lament, and to weep with those who weep.
