Motherhood is hard. In a world of 5 step-lists and silver-bullet solutions to become the perfect parent, mothers are burdened with mixed messages for who they are and what choices they should make. If you feel pulled between high-fives and hard words, with culture's solutions only raising more questions, you're not alone.

But there is hope.

At first glance, scripture doesn't have much to say about the food you make for breakfast, how you view your postnatal body, or what school choice you make for your children, but a deeper look reveals that everything goes back to the heart. Although the Bible doesn't spell out the answers to specific questions in modern-motherhood, God does provide a framework to find them.

In Risen Motherhood, Emily and Laura invite you to learn how to connect your Sunday-morning faith to the Monday-morning tantrum, through growing in your understanding and application of the gospel. They'll not only walk you through the gospel-narrative of common topics mums face, but they'll also teach you exactly how they do it.

Contrary to popular belief, the gospel is not disconnected or out-of-touch with today's motherhood. It's relevant. It matters. Join Emily and Laura as they walk through the redemptive story, revealing how the gospel applies to your everyday life, bringing hope, freedom, and joy in every area of motherhood.

Risen Motherhood

‘Many of us fear that our negative heart attitudes reflect who we truly are on the inside. We name ourselves: ”I am the angry mon, the worrier, the stressed-out mon…” And without Christ, it’s true….But if you are a believer, you have union with Christ. This means Christ is in you. It is not Christ plus you, or Christ and then you, or Christ and not you. It is Christ in you, which means you have everything your warrior, dragon-slaying hero has.’ Having found much to encourage and challenge me in the Risen Motherhood podcast over the last couple of years, I’ve been looking forward to reading this book, and have found it to be just as thought-provoking, revealing and gospel-hope filled as I’d expected. The heart of the authors, to show how Christ and the gospel speak to every area of our lives – even in the most mundane of parenting tasks, is obvious and uplifting. Sorting laundry and making packed lunches aren’t just the stuff that makes up my day – or the things that get in the way of what I should be doing. Even these are God-given opportunities to honour and worship Him. The authors give a helpful introduction to how we can apply the gospel to motherhood- indeed all areas of life, by asking questions about what creation, the fall, redemption and consummation have to say about each situation we are in. They then discuss in greater depth what this means in areas such as marriage, birth experiences, postpartum body image, family traditions, self-care, serving others etc. So often I felt they had insight into thoughts and feelings that seemed so personal to me. To have the truth of the gospel spoken into these areas has been both releasing and challenging. As a Christian I don’t need to feel subject to the measures the culture around me sets for parenting / marriage / image etc. What a release! And yet, there is the call to challenge my heart attitudes of selfishness, desire for comfort, of pride, to live in the light of the gospel – in thankfulness to Christ for his rescue, and in mission to my children, husband and those around me. This book is such a helpful resource to diagnose where I need to challenge my thinking and habits, and to be equipped with the hope and truth of Christ-in-me, and his grace in this season of parenting.
