Point to Jesus this Easter

We recently wrapped up our Easter Point to Jesus webinar.  We shared tried and tested strategies and trusted resources for Easter outreach. Our spotlight was on the power of exchanging ideas and tools to help families and churches make Jesus the centrepiece of their Lent and Easter celebrations. Let's keep the momentum going and spread the joy of the season!

Lean in while we share with you our key takeaways!

Our aim - inspire people with ideas for Easter events, and ways of sharing Jesus in their communities.

Key Points

  •  Lent and Easter devotional resources

  •  Pancake parties and Lent bags

  •  Giveaway books for children and adults

  •  Ideas for Easter events

  •  Tracts and Life Magazine

  •  Other 2025 evangelistic opportunities

Lent and Easter Devotional Resources

This Lent we can be helping our children and young people see the importance of Easter using family devotions. There are a wide variety to suit all ages and stages, whether a devotional calendar, 360 degree story book, or devotional dippers.

Lent is a brilliant opportunity to read along with a group of other believers, maybe even set up a group chat to encourage one another.

Pancake Parties and Lent Bags

Have you considered how hosting a pancake party in the future could attract people from your community, and provide a great opportunity to give out Lent bags. You can do this as a church, or even just individually in your home.

Victoria Beech suggests using Pancake Prayers to reflect on the bitter and sweet aspects of pancake toppings, and if you’d like to share a brief thought about what Lent means there is a helpful overview on the Stewardship website.

‘What goes in a lent bag?’ you may ask. The short answer is…whatever you want to put in it! Common items include a colouring sheet or puzzle, some small items which prompt thoughts around lent alongside a brief devotion or explanation, a sweet treat and an invitation to your easter events.

Ideas for Easter events

  1. Easter Trail

Why not set up a trail following a map around your church, church grounds, or wider local area?

Sheila Stephen used the rhyme from one of our Easter giveaway books in a handout for their trail last year. The families taking part were then given a copy of the book at the end of the trail, and also offered a Bible to take away if they wanted one. (Make sure to ask permission from the publisher of the book before using content.)

Honiton Evangelical Church incorporated a photo challenge in their trail for teens and gave those taking part a bag containing a book, chocolate, and a crocheted animal.

Go Chatter have produced a special Easter Lego Trail containing QR code augmented reality videos, these can be used alongside the free Lego Easter Story video.

  1. Family Fun Day

Celebrate with a selection of games and craft activities, aiming to stay true to the real meaning of easter. Baker Ross often have a good selection of faith-based crafts available.

Tokens can be collected from each game they take part in, and a prize table set up with a selection of books which have a clear gospel message (and chocolate attached to each book of course!).

  1. Easter Party

As your regular activities may pause for the holidays you may find it a great opportunity to hold an Easter party. You could use the opportunity to explain why Good Friday is good, a great opportunity to share the gospel. This video shares a good outline for this.

Don’t forget a goodie bag with a book, chocolate treat, and invitation to your services!

Knowing when schools break up for Easter could influence when you aim to run your family events!

Easter Holidays 2025* Sat 5th April– Mon 21st April

Easter Holidays 2026* Sat 28th March – Sun 12th April

Easter Holidays 2027* Fri 26th March (Good Friday) – Sun 11th April

*Check your local council website for accurate dates in your own area.

  1. Easter Carol Service

Evangelist Roger Carswell suggested the idea of incorporating classic Easter hymns in to a special evangelistic service for the local community to join in. By combining a selection of classic hymns, a short talk, and offering refreshments and free books this is a great option for those looking for an event targeting adults.

  1. Evangelistic Film Event

Our friends at Open the Bible have made available their video adaptation of Heaven How I Got Here: The Story of the Thief on the Cross. This one-hour film can be shown in your church or home, and they have even produced free posters, invitations and discussion questions to accompany it.

  1. Handwritten Easter Cards

With the price of stamps increasing significantly over the past decade, and the increase of electronic communication, many people don’t get any personal mail anymore- other than bills and takeaway menus! Could you buck this trend by sending out, or hand delivering, an easter greeting to friends and family? This could be the only reminder of the true meaning of Easter that they will receive.

Have you ever hand written cards for the residents of your local care home? Most homes are happy to provide the first names of their residents to enable you to send a personalised card at Easter and Christmas. Could you arrange to do this for the homes near your church?

Other Evangelistic Opportunities

Life Magazine

The evangelistic Life Magazine can be given out alongside an Easter card, or posted through each door on your street, or the roads surrounding your church. If you want to have a big evangelistic push alongside a big event you could even get a bespoke version of the magazine with your church details printed on the back, or get the cover redesigned to your own specification! We even have the means to get it delivered to your local area or postcode, just get in touch for more details.

Giveaway books for children and adults

Alongside our suggested easter activities and events we love to recommend giving away books to everyone attending. Our suggestions include board books for toddlers that help convey biblical stories, paperbacks for ages four to seven including a new title, Empty, which discusses the significance of the empty tomb, and activity books for older primary age children that feature stickers and puzzles.

For adults we recommended evangelistic books for outreach efforts. This year we have a new resource, How One Weekend Can Give You Everything You Ever Wanted, which connects Easter themes to deeper human desires. The books author, Graham Albans, an elder and outreach director at Grace Community Church Bedford, explained the book aims to address human needs and connect them to the message of Jesus.

Easter Evangelism checklist:

  • Order Easter cards and tracts for neighbours and friends

  • Order Life Magazines to give out in your community

  • Collect invitations for church Easter events

  • Invite your non-Christian friends or neighbours round for an Easter brunch and use as an opportunity to invite to your Easter services.

  • Help plan a follow up course for the summer term.

We hope you've found the information from the webinar helpful as you think about how you can point to Jesus this Easter, and if you have any further ideas do get in touch!
